Summer 2013: The Comfort Of Water

the comfort of water
in the summertime
thick turquoise solitude
underwater, there is a giant Buddha
i sit in his lap, legs crossed
everything is magical, and nothing hurts
the slinky play of pool against skin and stone
slapping like lover's thighs toward the steps and edges
a slender and spectacular divide runs like a river
between the bright edge of sunshine
and the cool blue of water
watch the baby's head find this space
and break brilliant, rainbow flint afire in the air
yellow! blue! green! white! pink!
her mouth the beginning of pink, her eyes the beginning of blue
the pool drinks her
i slide into the liquid
lay in the lap of the Universe
press my legs and kick
straight through to the big Western sky
